As the excitement begins to die down over Apple’s iPhone 5, it’s time to focus on the next much-rumored product: The iPad Mini.
Earlier this month, Apple released its refreshed iPod Touch lineup, which start at $299. That told us that an iPad Mini — a smaller, 7-85-inch version of Apple’s popular tablet — will at least start at $350.
While the price was disappointing to hear, people were excited about the newest feature of the iPod Touch: New color options!
Say farewell to the days of just black and white. The new iPod Touch comes in black, white, yellow, pink, blue and gray. Of course, the colors are quite loud and obnoxious, but kids will love them, right?
This begs the question: Will the iPad Mini come in a few different colors? It seems like Apple will be targeting a younger crowd with their iPad Mini, so fresh colors could happen.
But is it feasible? Apple sticks to black and white for its iPhone for a few different reasons.
Because it’s so popular, it’s easier to just release two different colors. Supplies could be quite tight if they offered the iPhone 5 in five different colors. The other reason it’s only offered in black and white is because Apple expects people to cover up their iPhone with a case of their choice, so what’s the point of giving a color option?
The same seems true with the iPad Mini. Demand will be high and many people use a case with their iPad. After all, they did shell out more than $500 to purchase the tablet.
And Apple lets users throw some color onto their iPad with their innovative Smart Cover. The Smart Cover comes in a variety of colors. Expect Apple to release a smaller Smart Cover for the iPad Mini.
Apple is expected to announce the iPad Mini sometime in October and have it ready to ship by the holidays. It’s unclear if the recent riot at a Foxconn factory in China slowed down manufacturing on the device.
