Will Siri Improve When it Comes to iPad, iOS 6?

June 5, 2012

We could soon see celebrities talking with Apple’s famous personal assistant on their iPads.

Reports out Monday say that Siri will finally make its way to the iPad with iOS 6 — Apple’s next-generation operating system for its tablet and iPhone. When Apple released its “New” iPad earlier this year, consumers expected that Siri would be onboard.

Disappointment ensued.

It seemed inevitable that Siri would come to the iPad eventually. We’re still unsure if it will only be compatible with the New iPad, or if iPad 2 users will also reap the addition. My guess? Only New iPad users will be able to take advantage, but if and when Apple’s next iPad (or iPad Mini?) are released, iPad 2 users will have good reason to upgrade.

Siri on the iPad is expected to work exactly as it does on the iPhone 4S. A user holds the home button and a small box will pop up at the bottom of the screen, and will readjust depending which way you’re holding your iPAd. You’re also expected to be able to use Siri from the lock screen.

All of this is great news, but will Siri be better? There are plenty of complaints about Siri not being advertised as it “really” works. She frequently doesn’t hear exactly what you say, or simple responds with something like “I can’t do that,” or something like that.

We do have reason to be hopeful, however. At the 10th annual All Things Digital Conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook did tell us to expect big things from Siri and soon. That’s definitely great news.

Since it’s release to the public Siri has been advertised as a beta, so I think we can anticipate her to hit a final version.

Will it be better though? What does Apple need to do to make Siri better?

The first thing that can come to mind is a turn-by-turn GPS, alongside a new set of 3D maps that Apple is currently working on. Siri’s voice would actually be pretty nice to listen to when driving.

Secondly is Siri’s voice. Could she be a he? Let’s hope that Apple at least gives us that option. Other ideas could be Siri reading you iBooks — essentially giving you a free (or maybe they would charge?) audio book. Maybe she will even learn some new jokes.

What would make Siri perfect? Let us know what you want out of your personal assistant.

  1. Joey:

I am looking forward to seeing what comes to Siri. I don’t have an iPhone 4S, so I don’t know how Siri works, but I think it will be cool to have an updated version. I am more worried about the look of the iPhone itself!
